Sister Act: Françoise Dorléac and Catherine Deneuve

"The only human being I could tell everything was my sister Françoise. She and I were so diametrically different; put together we would have been a fantastic woman." - Catherine Deneuve

After recently re-watching Les Demoiselles de Rochefort, I was inspired to do a post about the dazzling duo, Françoise and Catherine. I love these girls together as well as separately - Françoise in Cul-de-sac, Billion Dollar Brain, Where the Spies Are and Catherine in Repulsion, Belle de Jour, Les Parapluies de Cherbourg. Françoise has a tragic end to her story, dying in a brutal car accident in southern France when she was just 25 years old.
Françoise was described as everything Catherine was not - whereas Catherine was known as a quiet, reserved girl with an 'ice queen' demeanor, Françoise was a ball of energy, dancing, laughing and shaking her hair as she moved. I love the quote above by Catherine - they were such polar opposites that they would be the ultimate woman if they were put together.
This got me thinking about all the other sister teams that I love - Mia and Stephanie Farrow, Jean and Chrissie Shrimpton, and Pattie and Jenny (and Paula!) Boyd, among others! I guess it's true that talent - and beauty - runs in the family.

Absolutely gorgeous post! I will always think Les Demoiselles de Rochefort is one of the best musicals I've ever seen :D

Yaaay you have a Tumblr too ! Woohoo ! Mine is maureensadoll.com btw ! I wanted to write you a message (a.k.a ask a question) but it doesn't work with your Tumblr
:( boohoohoo !

Do you have problems with some users posting mean comments on your Blogger ? Cause I do -__-...

Kailey - thank you very much! Demoiselles is such a great film, both on a cinematic level (and a good film) and a visual level (just as fun to watch it for the gloriously bright colors and wacky French-ness)!
It;s sorely overlooked as a really great musical - people always forget Gene Kelly was in this, but they can't stop lavishing praise on Singin' in the Rain and An American in Paris (both deserved, but still! Demoiselles deserves some love!)

Hello my woman of the Beatles!
Ahh I definitely need to check out your tumblr, I bet it's a gem (if your site is any indication, then it'll be fab!) I'm really terrible at Tumblr so I don't know how to make it 'ask a question' :( but if you DO have a question or something, feel free to send it to my email: thedollyrockergirl@yahoo.com

I can't believe that anyone would write mean comments on your site! I've had it happen before, but mainly because something I had written was misinterpreted and there was an all-out attack against me. But why would they write mean things to you? (Though maybe it's one of those things where remember with Cyn and Mo, Pattie and Jane, and girls would literally try to beat them up because they were dating a Beatle? Same mentality! They're jealous that you have a FABULOUS site! But if I ever notice it happening, I'll kick some e-butt and make them shake in their boots! That's just not alright to do !

Hey Alexis,

Yeah it's because some templates don't have the ''ask a question'' option ! Mine was like that before & I didn't like it, so I changed it and now I have this option ! And your blog is SO good I doubt that you suck at Tumblr ;)

As for the mean comments, they suck !! I feel like these people don't have a life and that posting mean comments is entertaining to them. I mean, I NEVER do that ! Lol at the Beatle Girls reference, cute ;)

Thank you for your support, it's really appreciated !! & once again, your blog ROCKS !

Stephanie

xoxo

not having had a sister this confirms my feeling that it would have been jolly nice....

Hi Stephanie!
Hmmm... I need to play around more with Tumblr because I would really like to have an 'ask a question' option. And I started following you on Tumblr! Yay! And, for the record, I definitely agree - Maureen IS a doll!
I don't understand the people who write mean comments - what's the point? what's the thrill? What do they get out of being mean to someone on that person's site? If you don't like what someone has put up on their site, then don't read it and definitely don't comment on it! It's really quite simple, and then there are no mean comments!
If it's constructive, I definitely embrace criticism - but I don't need someone telling me I'm 'stupid' or a 'freak' or anything like that because I love retro stuff. But - to quote Kevin Gnapoor from Mean Girls - don't let the haters keep you from doing your thang!

I'm really glad that you like my site - I like yours quite a deal as well!

Young at Heart -

I definitely agree! I am sandwiched between two brothers, so I've never known the fun of having a sister! It would have been magical, no doubt, to have had such a close sibling bond like Catherine and Francoise had.
